Recent changes affect all wireless users

Do you have a wireless handheld that cannot do VPN?

Wireless access to the Internet is now available without the use of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection for registered wireless devices at IU Bloomington and IUPUI. Previously, you would not be able to access anything without establishing a VPN connection.

A VPN connection is still required to connect to most IU services such as Exchange, OneStart, or a departmental file server.

This service is intended to accommodate handheld devices without a VPN client and allows unencrypted access to IU’s wireless network. If you use a laptop or a handheld device with an access to a VPN client, UITS recommends you use VPN whenever you make a wireless connection. VPN encrypts your wireless session and allows full access to IU services.

Note: This service change is already available in main buildings and will be rolled out to other IUB & IUPUI locations such as Greek Housing, over the next few weeks.
