Safety first — October is National Cybersecurity Awareness month

Celebrate National Cybersecurity Awareness month responsibly, and keep your online data safe with these tips:

  • Update your password. Choose something memorable but strong, with at least eight characters, numbers, and symbols. Once you’ve created a strong password, use it in only one place.
  • Consider a passphrase. Passphrases are a good way to guard your online data. Choose 20 to 30 characters that are hard for hackers to guess (don’t use your name, your company, or common quotes).
  • Write your own security question. Whenever possible, choose to write your own security question with an answer known only to you. (The name of your high school or your pet might be easy to figure out if you’ve shared that on Facebook or Twitter.)
