Maintaining community on a commuter campus

Two IU South Bend anthropology professors are using technology to foster a sense of community in their classes. Using a technique known as TEAL (technology-enabled active learning), they lecture for 30-40 minutes, then assign in-class group work involving various software and student collaboration through a shared network. Because all activities are documented online or in the cloud, students can share ideas and review course materials wherever and whenever they want.
