IU computer scientists uncover bot-controlled Twitter accounts

Bot…or not? Some Twitter accounts aren’t operated by humans, but by an automated software application called a social bot, which is not always friendly. Social bots are clever enough to disguise themselves as humans. Many are benign, but some are designed with bad intentions, such as spreading misinformation, malware, and spam. A team of researchers at IU has developed a tool called BotOrNot that helps you determine the true source of tweets.
