IU faculty defend controversial Facebook research study

Five IU faculty recently defended a Cornell University study that used Facebook to test whether people take on the emotional states of those around them as a result of changes in Facebook’s news feed.

The study was seen by some as unethical and criticized by many for not advising users in advance. The IU faculty argued that such excessive criticism was unwarranted and could have a negative effect on valuable research.
