IU awarded $2.38 million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to develop library software

A $2.38 million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to Indiana University will be used to develop software created specifically for the management of print and electronic collections for academic and research libraries around the world. IU will lead the Kuali OLE (Open Library Environment) project, a partnership of research libraries dedicated to managing increasingly digital resources and collections. Together, these libraries will develop "community source" software that will be made available to libraries worldwide.

January 20: Grand opening of new rich media area at IUPUI

Made possible through a partnership between the IUPUI University Library and University Information Technology Services, IUPUI's new rich media area delivers high-end video and audio conversion, editing, and transfer tools. From 1:30 to 3:30pm on Wednesday, January 20, the University Library will host a public reception to mark the opening of the rich media area.

IU hits $177 million in cost reductions as part of ongoing effort

IU has achieved $177M in operating expense reductions as part of an ongoing university-wide cost-containment effort. In IT, IU has achieved savings of $40M per year in recurring costs and $15M in one-time reductions. The recurring savings are a result of IU's unmetered software licenses with Adobe and Microsoft. The one-time savings come from IU's partnership with Kuali Financial Systems to create an open-source financial system.

No-cost lynda.com video training available through June

Adobe Success Story: IU

One year ago, IU entered into a groundbreaking software agreement with Adobe, the first such agreement between Adobe and any university, modeled after the Microsoft agreement. Adobe presents Integrating technology, university-wide, highlighting what the agreement has meant for IU students, faculty, and staff. The enterprise-wide agreement makes a wide range of Adobe software available to the IU community at no cost on IUware.

IU receives $1.5 million from NIH to explore cloud computing for use in health research

Researchers from the Pervasive Technology Institute Digital Science Center at Indiana University have begun work on an innovative project that will use cloud computing techniques to support life science research. The project is supported by a $1.5 million grant award from the National Institutes of Health and takes advantage of an earlier National Science Foundation grant to IU to construct an experimental supercomputing network called FutureGrid.

IU receives NSF grant to lead campus trials of future research network

IU has been chosen by the National Science Foundation to help develop the Internet of the future. Under the grant, IU will explore the operation and deployment of the NSF-sponsored infrastructure for network research known as GENI (Global Environment for Network Innovations). This award follows an earlier NSF grant to IU to construct an experimental supercomputing network called FutureGrid, which will enable new approaches to scientific research.

Dedication of the new Data Center

Evoking IU's late president Myles Brand as one of the first to "clearly see the emerging importance of information technology for higher education," IU President Michael McRobbie formally dedicated IU's new $32.7 million Data Center. The facility protects such assets as the supercomputers Big Red and Quarry and the Bloomington hub of Indiana's statewide I-Light network.
